The results indicate that pH and ionic strength greatly affect the TiO 2 sedimentation process. Sedimentation can be formed properly when the solution is at pH 1 and 14, this happens because pH is close to the isoelectric point. Meanwhile, ionic strength with a concentration of 0.1 M gave the most optimal results in TiO 2 sedimentation.
TiO 2, turbidity and TOC as compared to pH of 6.5. For TOC removal, 60% was achieved at 60 mg/L alum in pH 5.8 solution, while 31% was removed at pH 6.5, which is related to the properties of NPs, coagulants and NOM. Overall, this study showed the effect of different factors (initial TiO 2 NP concentration, TiO 2
TiO 2 is a good semiconducting material and three naturally occurring crystalline forms of TiO 2 include rutile, anatase and brookite having band gap energy of 3.0, 3.2 and 2.96 eV respectively [8], [9], [10]. Anatase and rutile have tetragonal structure with different space groups. On the other hand, brookite adopts orthorhombic structure.
1.. IntroductionSince the TiO 2 photocatalyst is active under UV light irradiation shorter than 390 nm, only a small fraction (3–5%) of the solar irradiation can be utilized for the degradation of environmental pollutants. To apply visible light to the degradation of environmental pollutants, efforts have concentrated on the development of …
The quick sedimentation was found in non-treated TiO 2 nanofluid after 24 hours of the preparation as shown in Figure 3. TiO 2 nanofluid with CTAB showed better stability up to several days while the nanofluid with SDS surfactant shows less but overall better dispersion compared to nanofluid with non-treated TiO 2.
He et al. (2015) stated that TiO 2 NPs absorb these charged particles on their surface and result in the aggregation of NPs by electrostatic attraction, and in turn, cause higher sedimentation ...
Photodegradation efficiency is calculated for samples using (a) TiO 2 and (b) TiO 2-TMAOH; the results are shown in Fig. 1.The plots reveal that samples treated with TiO 2 enhance adsorption and induce coagulation and sedimentation of dye substance, whereas TiO 2-TMAOH enhances the dye degradation process. In the present study, …

2.3 Sedimentation of TiO 2 NPs in water leachate and suspensions of soils: batch experiments. The soil suspensions in this study were obtained by mixing soils with deionized water at a ratio of 1:20 (w/v) and equilibrating in a rotating shaker at 180 rpm at 25 °C for 24 h. The suspensions were centrifuged at 3500 × g for 30 min and then ...
3.1 DLS Measurements and Sedimentation Studies. Using both DLS measurements and a light absorption method that allowed for the direct measurement of aggregate sedimentation rates, we investigated and compared the aggregation behaviors of nano-TiO 2 suspensions exposed to humic and non-humic NOM. Regardless of NOM …
Two polymer dispersants, polyester dispersant (PD) and sodium polyacrylate (NaPAA), were used to disperse titanium dioxide in 10% aqueous isopropyl alcohol (IPA). The effect of pH and zeta potential on the dispersibility of the titanium dioxide (TiO 2) was studied via sedimentation. An optimum pH value of 8 for the two polymer dispersants in ...
The dissolution, aggregation, and sedimentation behavior of TiO 2 NPs and CeO 2 NPs are strongly influenced by the pH and IS of the solutions (Van Hoecke et al., 2011; Erhayem and Sohn, 2014). TiO 2 NPs was stable at all pH values, and the aggregation process occurred at its zero-charge point ( Loosli et al., 2013 ).
In the current study, sedimentation experiments were conducted under different environmental conditions to investigate the settling process of nanoparticles. The …
The n-TiO 2 sedimentation behavior was only affected by pH and NOM content at low levels of IS. Moreover, divalent cations can efficiently influence the n-TiO 2 sedimentation behavior compared with monovalent cations at fixed IS. Seven different environmental water samples were also used to investigate the n-TiO 2 sedimentation behavior in ...
The sedimentation of TiO 2 NPs was accelerated, and the growth inhibition of algae exposed to TiO 2 NPs alone or combined with OCs in natural water was reduced compared with UW (Fig. 1, Fig. 2). It is more difficult to analyze the toxicity of pollutants due to the difference in chemical properties of natural water.
The presence and accumulation of anatase TiO 2 in sediments at km +1.8 were thus confirmed by complementary XRD analysis, further supporting that there is some TiO 2 NM transport downstream even though the majority of TiO 2 sedimentation occurs near the emission source. We also evaluated the potential of epilithic organisms to accumulate Ti …
Indeed, the aggregation and sedimentation of two of the most common TiO 2 NM forms, anatase and rutile, have been shown to depend on particle morphology, the point of zero charge, and water ...
Taking into account the highest initial concentration of 10 mg/l, the n-TiO 2 sedimentation behaviour was basically the same for all the aqueous dispersions (Fig. …

The change of the sedimentation ratio with standing time for the ER fluids containing bare TiO 2 and MCNTs decorated TiO 2 particles is shown in figure 9. It can be seen that the settling speed of the bare TiO 2 particles was so fast that they achieved the sedimentation stable status in short time, and the sedimentation ratio of this sample is ...
The stability and bioavailability of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 NPs) suspension could be modified by the physicochemical properties of solution. In the present study, the effect of humic acid (HA) and ionic strength (by adding NaCl) on aggregation and sedimentation of TiO 2 NPs suspension were investigated. Accordingly, the sublethal …
TiO 2 is widely used as a sunscreen UV filter and as a colouring agent in all types of cosmetic products. 2,3 TiO 2 is employed as whitening and an anti-bacterial in toothpaste, as a component in stay-on cosmetics, to make pearl pigments for high quality eye and face make-ups, lipsticks, nail lacquers, and it is an important component also in ...
The sedimentation profiles of Al 2 O 3 and TiO 2 nanofluids with regard to the sedimentation height ratio was obtained by plotting ln h o h t against different time intervals, t for different ...
Titanium dioxide (TiO 2) sedimentation, enhanced through charge neutralization and coagulation/flocculation with metal salts and polymers, was …
The one-step process is used for the preparation of TiO 2-SiO 2 nanofluids with ratio 70:30. TiO 2-SiO 2 nanofluids were prepared by mixing together all two single nanofluids (TiO ... name [23] have used the same process for visual sedimentation of [18], prepared nanofluids. The UV-Vis was done for 10 days (250 h) based on the length of the ...
The aim of this investigation was to illustrate the influence of TiO 2 NPs (5 and 15 nm) on the bioaccumulation and toxicity of cadmium (Cd), arsenate (As(III)), and nickel (Ni) in Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) during the process of sedimentation in aquatic environment. Our data showed that HMs accelerated the aggregation of TiO 2 NPs.
The sedimentation of TiO 2 NPs was detected using UV–vis spectroscopy with a wavelength of 378 nm. Higher aromatic/aliphatic content in NOM caused an increase in the hydrophobicity and thus a higher adsorption on TiO 2 NPs. The aromatic/aliphatic carbon ratios of Suwannee River humic acid (SRHA) and Suwannee River fulvic acid …

where v is the sedimentation velocity of n-TiO 2, r is the radius of n-TiO 2, ρ is the density of n-TiO 2, ρ 0 is the density of water, g is acceleration of gravity, and η is viscosity of water. This formula indicates that with the larger measured value of the n-TiO 2 particle size, the larger is the possibility of sedimentation. Obviously, the dynamic and …
