The friction and wear performance of titanium alloys against tungsten carbide balls under four kinds of aqueous solutions were investigated. The results showed that triethanolamine borate and water had no effect on lubricating titanium alloy. The friction coefficient was 0.45 and the worn surface had some microgrooves and peeled-off scars.
Tungsten carbides are possible low-cost replacements for noble metal catalysts, but the role of different carbide stoichiometries (W 2 C, WC) and their polymorphs for catalytic behavior is poorly understood.
